We read apocalyptic literature like the book of revelation and often times think of what is to come. We really need to think about what is the here and now. Only then can we prepare for what is to come.

The Golden Rule is how we will live for ever in Heaven. Have you thought about what Heaven will be like? Perhaps you should. We should know what we are striving for?

The eye of the needle seems like an absurd image until we understand its historical roots. A camel has to have all that it is carrying to be removed as it goes through the eye of a needle in the wall of an ancient city. It is about placing God first and let go of everything else. This even has implications in today's political season

Jesus Christ elevates marriage to that of a sacrament which is life-long. There are several major threats to marriage - a overly sexualized society, lack of chastity, and a desire for utility in the marriage. Turn to the Cross for strength to love according to our state in life.

Jealousy and selfish ambition is part of the human experience. We all must admit that we have it. Will you invite Jesus Christ to order it? Then we can be like a child in his arms, able to enjoy life with freedom, joy, and peace.

Jesus and his disciples did not wash their hands before eating and the Pharisees and Scribes ridiculed him for it. Jesus says that it is the things that come from within the human heart that defiles not from the outside. He is talking really about sin which defiles the soul and which God's commandments are about.

Jesus is the bread of life! Whenever we can no longer go on Jesus is there to be our strength in our weakness. He is our viaticum!

Money is a gift from God. Debt keeps us from being generous and serving God. Tithing helps us get out of debt and place God as our priority. Tithing is a return back to God of the amazing generosity that God has given to us. Tithing traditionally is 10% of your gross income. Yet, I don't care how much or where that you tithe as much as that you do. Tithing is one of the precepts of the Church. Give, be generous, and be joyful!

In tragic circumstances, we go to God to pray. Why? Well, innately we know that God made us to be with Him. God made us to pray. Prayer is a basic communication with God: a listening and speaking. We need to follow the three "P" words to grow in prayer: Prepare, Posture, and Persevere.

We are all called to be missionaries of Jesus Christ. He calls us, helps us to let go of excuses, sends us, and helps us proclaim his good news. Will you be his missionaries?

St. Paul said that three times he asked the Lord to remove the thorn in his flesh and the Lord replied, "My Grace is sufficient for you." We suffer every day. We can not escape suffering. But, suffering can be redemptive and bring about good if we unite it with Jesus on the cross.

With the Health and Human Services mandate, our Church's freedom to act and govern according to our conscience is being taken away. We need to risk ourselves as Jesus did in the Gospel to ensure that the freedoms we have will be preserved for future generations.

The feast of Corpus Christi is there to help us recognize the real presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion. As we hunger to be united with Him in the Eucharist, this hunger will move us to live a life of greater love and prayer.

Mother's Day is a time to celebrate the sacrifices and love of our mothers. They are living out the love which has been given to them by God. Trying to be supermom may destroy it. What do you choose?
